Intel DG31PR

Mark: Very good

eCS 2.0 RC5 installs with no manual adjustment to the boot config.

Dani support for SATA is excellent.

Onboard Realtek RTL8111-GR NIC is well supported by GenMAC 2.2, and is properly detected during OS install.

Onboard HDA utilizes Realtek ALC888 audio codec, and is now supported with Uniaud 1.1.4RC7 + uniaud32.sys 1.9.7, including system sounds (no hangs at boot or during desktop startup).

ACPI 3.09 & 3.10 perform well in APIC mode, though suspend/resume only seems to work the first time around. After that, the system will not resume (look for this to be addressed in a future ACPI release).

Latest BIOS release as of this writing: PRG3110H.86A.0053, released 7/2008. Still some startup issues (OS-independent) remain, but overall stable.

Overall experience: Very good; commercially viable for deployment.

Recommendations: Hard reset when rebooting machine to clear ACPI tables (under *any* OS). Warm resets typically result in boot hangs, even before IPL (OS-independent).

Does this board accept dual-core CPUs?

Yes, the latest Core2 Duo and Core2 Quad CPUs will run just fine on this board (see Intel's specs, referenced from the homepage link, above).

OS: eComStation RC6a

(RC7 hung merging hardware selections):

DG31PR motherboard

2.66GHz Core 2 Quad Q8400

4GB PC-6400

Intel 3945ABG mPCIe Wi-Fi card mounted on PCI adapter board (works flawlessly)

The client couldn't be happier, and everything, down to the onboard serial port works. The onboard Intel video is handled by SNAP (and Panorama) as VESA, and the performance there is rather lackluster, but it works.

On another similar system, I had to add on a PCI parallel card. APIC mapped the IRQ to 23, which was no good for PRINT01.SYS, so I used ACPI.CFG to remap it to 7, and this got printing working. The serial port gave me issues using the included PSCOM.SYS, but not the "updated" one from the BetaZone, which seems to be working fine.

I have on order for testing an Intel DP45SG ([url] ), 2.66GHz Core 2 Quad Q9400, and 2GB PC-10660 1333MHz DDR-3 SDRAM. If anyone has built anything similar or used one of the new i7 processors & compatible motherboards, I'd be interested to hear.
