ASUS M4A78 PLUS
Mark: Good New PC built for a client of ERA Computers & Consulting in November 2009.
Using an AMD dual-core processor with eCS 2.0 rc7 "Silver".
Both cores working with "PSD=ACPI.PSD /SMP /PIC" at the top of the
CONFIG.SYS file.
During install the installer hung hard (no mouse or keyboard) in the
second phase at 1 second into the counter. Had to reset with the reset
switch. Again the installer hung at phase two but at 6 seconds into the
counter. Again had to press reset. The third time the second phase
completed and the installation finished.
There are only internal headers for connecting serial and parallel
with this motherboard. Installed add-in serial and parallel cables
that connect to the back slots.
THERE IS NO FLOPPY CONTROLLER. Used an external Verbatim SmartDisk
USB floppy drive to give the end-user floppy capability.
Video adapter used with this build is a 32MB DDR Matrox Millennium
G550 PCIe x1 with SNAP. Windowed DOS sessions DO WORK with this combination.

The hard drive and DVDRW drive are both SATA devices. The on-board SATA controller is supported by Daniela's driver as supplied with eCS rc7. | Michail 2009-12-10 14:07:02 | can you give more information?
What are the setting in BIOS setup? what is the kernel? | Gene Alexander 2009-12-13 21:59:21 | BIOS was updated to latest BIOS from ASUS for this motherboard as of the day of the build. Settings were only changed for clock time / date and boot order of the devices to put the DVD╠RW drive ahead of the hard drive.
The kernel is the default kernel from the install CD. That was not changed to anything else. | Gene Alexander 2010-01-19 23:49:54 | After the end-user had the system for a while and tried to change sounds in the system sound dialog he experienced hard hangs. I did not try to change sounds from the default while building the PC so this was not discovered while the PC was here in the shop. It appears that the default UNIAUD supplied with eCS 2.0 rc7 "Silver" is unstable with this motherboard.
Currently I am looking for fixes to try to make the system stable when using sound at all times. Anyone that knows some tricks for stabilizing a system with UNIAUD please feel free to join IRC on chat.freenode.net port 8001 and join #ecomstation or #netlabs to chat about it. TIA |
