System overall works well. For PCMCIA I needed the ss2intel.sys driver. Also in Warp 3 needed the pccardw3.exe PC Card drivers, Warp 4 and above all works well with ss2intel.sys. Has an S3 video chipset, either SNAP or the S3 drivers on the Compaq site works. USB works with the USBOHCD.SYS driver. Sound is an ESS1879 although I found the ESS688 drivers work in both OS/2 and WinOS/2, had to use Interrupt 5, Port 220, and DMA 0 on sound. Winmodem doesn't work for me. Have not tried infared as I have no infared devices.

Olafur Gunnlaugsson 2009-05-03 03:57:35	There is a native OS/2 driver for sound supplied by compaq, use that rather than the generic one. For accelerated display you also need the S3 driver released by Compaq or a sliglty updated one that was available from S3, the SNAP final drivers are not all that fast but work fine. Note that the S3 installer is buggy and you will need to edit the svga ini file to change the resolution frequency to 65 for the driver to work correctly, the same problem plagues the 73xx line and the older aurora S3 chips. The USB chip used in the 7400 is a Compaq one and is buggy This computer runs all OS/2 versions except ecs 2x betas, appears to be a kernel incompatibility, but 1.2r2 works like a charm.
Olafur Gunnlaugsson 2009-05-03 04:06:07	Oh, yeah, the Compaq 7800 is the same basic model as this housed in a slightly different case that has a built in power supply and can take 2 batteries. All the same drivers work with the 7800
