Tyan Tomcat K8E S2865

Mark: Very good

This is an excellent AMD64 motherboard. It has a PCI-e 16x video slot, two regular PCI-e slots, and a full four standard PCI slots (which is rare on PCI-e boards). Most significantly, the primary onboard gigabit NIC is a Broadcom BCM5721, which has OS/2 drivers available; see drivers URL. (The secondary onboard NIC is Marvell-based, which I haven't gotten working; but I don't need it anyway.)

There are models available with and without onboard audio (ALC655), FireWire, and/or video (a rather mediocre ATI Rage XL, supported by SNAP).

Very highly recommended, at least if you don't need the second NIC.

An update on the second onboard NIC.

I previously said it was a Marvell gigabit ethernet controller, which is not entirely accurate. The actual specification is "nForce4 integrated MAC with Marvell 88E1111-CAA gigabit Ethernet PHY".

In other words, the NIC is an nForce 4 10/100/1000 gbE controller (PCI ID 10DE:0057). The good news? It's supported by GenMAC Wrapper 2.0 using the nForce package.

In fact, I'm now using it as a second TCP/IP interface, because it happens to work with Innotek Virtual PC's "virtual switch" driver. (The Broadcom NIC, which I'm still using as my main interface, does not support virtual switch mode in VPC/2 - this appears to be a limitation of the OS/2 driver.) So now I have the best of both worlds.
