ASUS WL-330Gg Pocket Wireless Access Point

Mark: Very good

Mark Dodel reminds: 802.11g support is to use a wireless bridge. See the review by Daniela Engert of one such device (the Asus WL330gpocket access point) in the VOICE Newsletter - http://www.os2voice.org/VNL/past_issues/VNL0305H/vnewsf4.htm These devices just require a supported ethernet port and are configurable using a web browser.

The first two brand new WL-330G units I purchased had dead radio transmitters, and I returned them under warranty. The third unit works very well, but my experience suggests that ASUS may have QC issues with this model.

I have been using one of these for years. It works well, HOWEVER, recent versions of Firefox will not allow you to enter a password when attempting to connect to a protected access point (probably because of no JAVA support). The work around, that I use, is to use windows XP in a Virtual PC, and install the Asus package for the device. It works fine through the Virtual Switched Network driver. Once it gets connected, it will remember the connection parameters, and you don't need to do that trick again, until the next time you need to change it.

Some years back I wrote a (somewhat verbose) review of WL-330g's sibling WL-330gE here:

Somewhere in 2010 (IIRC) on one of the comp.os.os2.* NGs there was a discussion about the WL-330gE (not) hiding its IP address or so when in router mode (or something like that); it referred to Internet access in hotels with picky firewalls which detected another router in between (again, IIRC).
