If anyone has some time over the holidays and wants to do something to help the OS/2 community, a great way would be to write an article for the VOICE Newsletter or OS/2 eZine. You don't have to be a professional writer to do this. You just need a story to tell.
Do you have some new hardware or a new software application that you would like to let others know works under OS/2 or eComStation? A How-To article is easy to write, just keep a record of everything you did to get something working. Review articles can help generate interest in a particular piece of software or let people know what hardware works with OS/2.
For more on writing an article for VOICE please see our Submission Guidelines. We currently accept articles written in English or German. Please send any article ideas to editor.
For more on writing articles for OS/2 eZine please see The OS/2eZine Press Room. Please send any article ideas to editor

An analysis of the Microsoft settlement in regards to California can be
found at pseudothought.com site.
The actual document can be obtained here.
Yes it is in .doc format, and is large (280K) but is viewable in Lotus Word Pro 1.6.
Essentially Microsoft's only penalty is to donate old pcs and software to
schools, something they do anyway, and which is more of a benefit to them
(tax write-off, eliminates competition, binds young people to Microsoft
only software, Microsoft gets rid of old software they can't sell anyway)
then any possible penalty and will actually cost the schools money to
support this. Who ever wrote this proposed settlement should be deeply
ashamed. It's really just a marketing ploy for MSFT.
Since I am breaking my own rule in mentioning the Microsoft case on the
list I may as well also mention Tom Nadeau's take on the USDOJ settlement
as well "Microsoft on Truth Serum: The Antitrust Settlement Line-by-Line".

Large mugs and sweatshirts. Low prices, high quality. Here. |

Maybe others were aware of this, but it was news to me that IBM is now peddling old and refurbed merchandise and parts on eBay.
Nothing directly OS/2 related, but lot's of systems (Netvistas, ThinkPads and servers(need an AS/400?)) and things like network cards, monitors, drives, controllers and RAM. I didn't see any software listed. Not sure how prices compare with other outlets, but if you are looking for something obscure, this might be the place to look.

Survey related to VoiceType and Opera web-browser.
Do you use VoiceType in eComstation? (All the time!, Sometimes, Almost never, Tried it once, Never ever!, VoiceType?)
On the homepage of Opera Webbrowser there is a survey about the browser. OS/2 is mentioned as possible platform. If you like Opera it would be a good idea to make your point there.

The Ultimate OS/2 Newsfeed at Jakesplace has added two new newsfeeds.
I've added the Sundial news groups to the newsfeed at jakesplace. Sundial Systems are the developers of such fine OS/2 software packages as Mesa, Clearlook, Relish, DBExpert, Junkspy, etc. I'm now carrying all their groups.
I've also added the recently revived OS/2 related newsgroups at IBM's news server, news.software.ibm.com.
Jakesplace is now carrying feeds from usenet, eComStation.nl, IBM's java news server, IBM's general news server, Scitech/Openwatcom, Mozilla.org, and Sundial, for a total of 88 newsgroups.
If you're running a private OS/2 related news server and would like tohave your groups added to the Jakesplace Ultimate OS/2 Newsfeed, feel free to contact me at jake@jakesplace.dhs.org.
News server policy may be found in the newsgroup jakesplace.announce. Any comments or requests regarding policy may be discussed in jakesplace.discussion.
To access the server, just point your newsreader at jakesplace.dhs.org. (news://jakesplace.dhs.org for all you netscape fans out there;).

Netcraft is the server which observes web-servers status.
NetCraft was detecting web-servers with os/2 installed as Compaq True64 (ex-Digital Unix). Now, it detects os/2 servers properly. This will allow to count widespread of os/2 machines in the internet.
